Organization project one; the pantry
I am SO not a good housekeeper it's not funny. I'm doing well if I get the dishes done on a daily basis. When it comes to work, I know where everything is, and where I stand on projects I'm working on. When it comes to housework... well, that's a totally different story. If I could only apply my organizational skills to housekeeping! The problem is, work is interesting but housework isn't.
However, I've vowed to give it another try. I'm starting small, with our pantry. It's really a converted broom closet. The Man gave me a couple rolling carts with removable bins; old beverage carts from an airline. The bins are exactly soda can size, which also happens to be the same height as standard cans of veggies. I had to pull two shelves out of my pantry to get the two carts to fit inside, but they are in. One cart is full; it's amazing how much it holds! The other still needs to have the bins washed. I'll only put in every other level though, so I can fit in larger goods like tall cans of juice and bottles.
My original goal was to put all my appliances in the pantry, but I didn't realize how many extra large storage containers I have for my FoodSaver vacuum machine. They won't fit in the carts so they must stay on shelves. So, not enough room for my ever-expanding collection of kitchen gadgets (most from Mom, the Gadget Queen; but that's a whole 'nuther issue!) However, I decided to put all my bakeware and maybe even food storage containers (if there is room) in the pantry instead. This will leave the kitchen cabinets for all the appliances.
Once I get the pantry completed, I'll have to snap a photo. Don't know when that will be though... this simple little project was started last Friday and STILL isn't done. I'm a bad, bad housekeeper...
