I found a new online hangout!
There are only a few websites I visit on a regular basis. Susanweed.com is #1; the "official" reason for the forums is to discuss medicinal herbs, but it is so much more. It's like a huge group of friends sitting around a collective kitchen table and just chatting about life.
The weed forum, as it's called, is where my long-dormant desire to move my life in a simpler direction was re-awakened. The people on the forum are so helpful and so knowledgeable, and range from those who "live off the land" in its most literal sense to big city dwellers in apartments. The major undercurrent is that of personal and environmental awareness, and it was the perfect place for me to be to re-examine those old desires and dreams.
The desire to simplify my life is due in large part to my dream of moving to a farm. With that in mind, I stumbled across what is likely to become a new hangout; maryjanesfarm.com. This is a site similar to Susan Weed's except the emphasis is on women who either ARE "farmgirls" or WANT to be "farmgirls." I only discovered it yesterday, but spent a few hours surfing the forums and it looks like a great place for us frustrated farmer wannabe's. I always knew I wasn't alone in my wish to move to a farm (heck, just check out the myriad of books on the subject at the local library!) but I didn't know there were so MANY of us. Finding that site was almost like a homecoming, and I think I'm going to like it there!
